Hi, I’m Donna Rose, the therapist here
With over 25 years of experience as a psychologist, I have a special interest in supporting families through the unexpected — whether that’s fertility difficulties, premature birth, health concerns, developmental differences, social adversity, or loss.
The early experiences of becoming - or trying to become - a parent shape us deeply, touching both our inner world and our connections with others. Together, we’ll explore how your experiences, relationships, health, and hopes for the future weave into your family’s story, while finding steadiness, connection, and moments to simply be in the midst of it all.
My approach is trauma and neurodevelopmentally informed, gentle, and relationship focused. I’ll support you to make sense of your experiences, grow genuine confidence, and discover your own way of being a family.

I am a Registered Psychologist with additional postgraduate training in perinatal & infant mental health, supportive therapy for grief and perinatal loss, and health law.
I'm particularly drawn to supporting the adjustment to parenting and the early relationship between parent and child - that tender, complex process of becoming a family.
Prior to commencing private practice, I worked with families at outstanding public services including the Children’s Hospital at Westmead (NSW), Neonatal Growth and Development Services in NSW and Brisbane and the Family Court of Australia.
When I'm not here, I consult for Gidget Foundation Australia, at Greenslopes Hospital Brisbane, and care for my own growing family.

Telehealth support wherever you are in Eastern Australia
Living in a rural or remote area shouldn’t mean missing out on quality perinatal and parenting support. I provide psychological care across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria — supporting families from remote communities, regional towns to my home city of Brisbane.
Having worked with rural and remote families for many years, I understand how isolating parenthood can feel, particularly when local resources are limited.
Through secure Telehealth sessions, you can access support from the comfort of your own home. While different from meeting face-to-face, online therapy can be just as effective for building genuine connection and creating wellbeing.

The fee is $190 for a 50-60 min session.
The current Medicare Rebate is $98.95, which brings the out-of-pocket cost to $91.05 per session.
Medicare Rebates are available to Medicare Card holders with a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral from a GP or a Psychiatrist.
Private Health Insurance holders may be eligible for reimbursement of fees for psychology services. Please contact your insurer to determine rebates under your policy.
Both Medicare and Private Health insurance rebates cannot be claimed for the same session.

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist.
However, a GP or psychiatrist can activate a Medicare Mental Health Treatment Plan which provides a rebate on the cost of psychologist fees.
The Medicare rebate is valid for 6 sessions, after which your referring Doctor will review whether more sessions are needed, and an additional 4 sessions can be accessed. There is a limit of 10 rebatable sessions per calendar year with a Medicare Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Once you or your GP have contacted me, I will ask you to book in for a 20 minute introductory phone call where we will talk about what you are looking for and whether our working together is the best fit for your needs.
Next, we will book in our first appointment few appointments and send you some online paperwork to review and complete.
-
Sessions are conducted through a secure internet Telehealth connection. We have a few different options available - we’ll work out what will work best with your technology situation during our intake call.
For the first few sessions, I’d like to see you two -weeks apart; this helps to get our teamwork going. Then we work out how often we meet, based on your needs and availability.
-
Telehealth is the conduct of a health session via a secure video connection on a phone, tablet or computer.
In Psychology/Psychiatry we have been using telehealth for therapy for decades with people living in remote communities. The Covid Pandemic helped us all understand that we could use telehealth routinely and effectively to deliver psychological care.

I really don’t want to charge a cancellation fee, so the booking systems make it easy for you to change your appointment all the way up to 8am, the morning of the appointment.
A partial pre-payment is taken for each appointment booking and will be transferred to a rescheduled appointment or held as a cancellation fee if an appointment is missed without notification.

Rose Perinatal is based in Brisbane (Meanjin), on the traditional lands of the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples.
We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge that for tens of thousands of years, the traditional custodians have nurtured children on these lands with wisdom and care passed down through generations.
